You Asked: Bud Orne Memorial Rink

On Friday, we received a photo of the Bud Orne Memorial Rink, showing it partially blanketed in snow, and a question.

The reader had a comment, too, saying it was is perfect outdoor skating weather. The question was: What is going on with the famed Bud Orne Memorial Rink?

On Monday we asked Brendan Egan, superintendent of the Marblehead Recreation and Parks Department, if the rink was still open and what were the procedures for opening it for skating.

The superintendent said, yes, the rink, located at Lime Street and Green Street, was open.

The clearing of the ice surface, however, is done by volunteers, and their work is dependent upon the weather, he said.

The Parks and Recreation provides assistance at the rink site during regular work hours when their schedule allows them to help, he said.
