Hostage Scam Reported

The following information was submitted by the Marblehead Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Jan. 27

10:31 a.m., police attempted to serve a warrant on Sagamore Road. No one was there.

11:05 a.m., police attempted to serve a summons on Willard Lane. No one was there.

12:34 p.m., a Buchanan Road caller reported a possible hit-and-run accident.

12:56 p.m., a Pilgrim Road caller reported a car door was hit.

3:54 p.m., police received a report about bad checks passed at an Atlantic Avenue location.

3:57 p.m., a Washington Street caller said she received a phone call stating that her father was just in a car accident and that they were holding him hostage. The caller told her she had to give the caller $10,000 in excahnge for her father's release. The woman told police that the caller did not use her father's name. They referred to him by another name. The woman told police it was a disturbing experience and she wanted it documented.

10:26 p.m., a Norman Street resident told police that someone had thrown items at her house and it scared her and her kids. She asked police to check the perimeter. The woman reported to police that there had been an incident earlier in the day involving her ex-husband. Police checked the property and nothing was showing.
