Independence Day 2021: What's Open, Closed July 5 In Marblehead

Fourth of July falls on a Saturday this year, which means the holiday is observed the following day, on Monday in most cases.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Independence Day has arrived, and although Southern New England's weather is far from summery, many are still celebrating with backyard barbecues, town celebrations and fireworks displays. Because July 4 falls on a holiday this year, most businesses and services are observing the holiday the following day, on Monday.

That's good news, because the weather is supposed to be a bit dreary this weekend. But not Monday.

  • Package (liquor) stores: Open
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Convenience stores: Open
  • Restaurants, bars: Open at owner's discretion, though many close on Mondays anyway
  • Banks: Closed
  • Libraries: Closed
  • Stock market: Open
  • Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
  • Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only
  • MBTA: Sunday/Holiday schedule
  • Trash Collection: Delayed by one day

In observance of the Independence Day holiday on Monday, July 5, trash & recycling will be picked up one day late on the following days:

Monday trash & recycling will be collected on Tuesday.

Wednesday trash & recycling will be collected on Thursday.

Thursday trash & recycling will be collected on Friday.

Friday trash & recycling will be collected on Saturday.
