Lilith Fair Tribute To Kick Off In Marblehead
A concert tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Lilith Fair will kick off at the Me & Thee Coffeehouse.

MARBLEHEAD, MA – When Sharon Goldman put out her latest album, she was reminded of the 20th anniversary of the Lilith Fair. Her album contained a song the told the story of the biblical figure, Lilith. The story of Lilith also inspired singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan for the name of the Lilith Fair in 1997.
"Lilith Fair itself was like this huge culmination of what was happening in music at the time," said Goldman, who was inspired by the female artists of the fair before the fair was formed. The fair was created out of frustration for the unwritten rule of music festivals that limited the number of female musicians. Goldman said that issue still exists today.
Goldman will join Sloan Wainwright, Lara Herscovitch, and Amy Soucy in launching "Steady On: Celebrating Lilith Fair At 20," on Sept. 8 at the Me & Thee Coffeehouse. The show will start at 8 p.m., and tickets at $18 in advance and $22 at the door.

The performers will play songs written by Lilith Fair luminaries, such as Shawn Colvin, Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Tracy Chapman and Suzanne Vega. In addition, they will share original songs inspired by the spirit of those artists. The show title, "Steady On," was inspired by the title of one of Shawn Colvin’s most popular songs.
"The artists of Lilith Fair were such an inspiration to me," said Goldman, who remembers seeing Suzanne Vega play solo while she was in college. "The idea of a festival of all female artists was really groundbreaking."
