Local Sailor Completes Race Around the World

Rich Wilson finished the Vendée Globe – a solo sailing race around the world – last Tuesday.

MARBLEHEAD, MA – Marblehead sailor Rich Wilson, 66, completed his solo race around the world on Tuesday afternoon as the oldest skipper in the race.

Wilson placed 13th on Tuesday after 107 days, 48 minutes, and 18 seconds. According to the Vendée Globe, this is Wilson's second time completing the race. He improved his second race time "by a fortnight," and conducted an educational program every day for more than 750,000 students. His journey was also the fastest solo race around the world for an American.
