Marblehead Coronavirus: Officials Announce Cancellations

MARBLEHEAD, MA—Town officials say they are taking the following steps to limit public gatherings and stem the spread of the COVID-19 virus by announcing several cancellations. Those cancellations are as follows:

  • All classes, programs and special events offered by the senior center are immediately suspended excluding transportation.
  • The Abbot Public Library has suspended all library programs - for all age groups -as well as the use of the building’s meeting spaces by outside groups.
  • All non-regulatory/advisory town boards, committees, commissions are asked to suspend meetings indefinitely.

"As this is a rapidly evolving situation the town will continue to communicate with the community as updates become available and additional decisions are made," officials said in an online statement.

COVID-19 precautionary measures remain the same as influenza prevention, town officials stressed. While there is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, these simple steps can help stop the spread of this and other respiratory viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough (cough into you elbow) or sneeze with a tissue
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Avoid large gatherings especially if you are over the age of 60 or with underlying health conditions

Town officials encourage residents to take precautions and exercise good preventative health
