Marblehead Fire Brings Out The Hoses For Heatwave

After cooling down Recreation campers on Monday, Ladder 1 will be at the Community Center Wednesday at 4 p.m. for another hose-down shower.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Fire Department is doing its part to give residents a respite from the extreme heat this week with a couple of cool-down opportunities courtesy of Engine 1 and Ladder 1.

On Monday, Marblehead fire turned the water on campers and counselors at the Marblehead Park and Recreation camp at the Gatchells Playground.

On Wednesday at 4 p.m., they will be back at it for any resident in need of a cool shower at the Marblehead Community Center at 10 Humphrey Street. This event is open to the public.

"So grab your bathing suit, and stop by to say hello, and cool off," Marblehead fire said.

In the meantime, here are some tips to help get through the heatwave from Marblehead fire:

- Dress for the heat. Wear loose-fitting, light-colored, breathable clothing
- Hydrate! Drink plenty of water
- Cool off! Take breaks from the heat by spending time in a cool place
- Pay attention to how you feel, and watch for symptoms of heat illness in those around you.
- Check-in on your neighbors, especially the elderly to make sure they are staying hydrated and cool during these next few days!
- Please don’t leave your pets in your vehicles!

Marblehead fire also credited the Marblehead Water Department for fixing the fire hydrant at Gatchells so that Monday's event could happen.
