Marblehead Library Suspends Programs Amid Coronavirus Concerns

MARBLEHEAD, MA—Following concerns over the coronavirus, the Abbot Public Library Board of Trustees announced Wednesday that it is temporarily suspending all library programs — for all age groups — as well as the use of its meeting spaces by outside groups.

According to the board, the decision was made using an abundance of caution and "taking a cue" from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health professionals.

"We apologize to all our patrons for any inconvenience and hope to reschedule the canceled programs, where possible, in the near future," library officials said. "We will continue to monitor the situation, in regard to the coronavirus and will keep you informed."

All other library services will continue to be available unless otherwise notified, library officials said.

According to Gov. Charlie Baker, at last check, there were 92 cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts — 91 of them presumptive positive tests — and the number was expected to increase as more testing is done.
