Marblehead Police To Collect Halloween 'Extra Candy' Donations

The donations will to Operation Troop Support of Danvers and the Marblehead Food Pantry this November.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Whether through trick-or-treating, or that impulse buy at a grocery store, many families wind up with excess Halloween candy at the start of November that they would rather their kids and themselves not consume.

If that's the case in Marblehead, police are asking those families to consider donating the extra candy for distribution to Operation Troop Support of Danvers and Marblehead Food Pantry as part of their annual candy drive.

Donations can be dropped off at the police station's lobby.

All donations last year went Operation Troop Support of Danvers for distribution to troops stationed around the world. Because of the coronavirus crisis, police said donations will be split between Operation Troop Support and the Marblehead Food Pantry this year.

Donations will be accepted Nov. 1 through Nov. 13

"The donation process is touchless — just drop your candy in one of the large bins in the lobby and it's 'mission complete.' No appointments are needed and other than maybe throwing a friendly wave to the dispatchers.

"You don't have to interact with anyone. We do ask that you please wear a mask when in the lobby if at all possible."

Marblehead police will process and deliver the candy under guidelines of the Board of Health.
