Marblehead Sees Slight Increase in Unemployment From Last Year

Marblehead unemployment has stayed at the same rate over the past year, according to news stats.

On Monday the state released the most recent unemployment numbers for towns and cities in Massachusetts. Marblhead has shown little change in unemployment since this time last year but saw a slight decrease in April. 

Throughout the state, unemployment went up in most regions; specifically unemployment percentages in 16 out of the 22 areas went up. 

Marblehead unemployment barely budged from this time last year, increasing a tenth of a percent from 4.7 percent in May of 2012 to 4.8 percent in May of 2013. And the unemployment rate went down slightly before going back up in May of this year; from 4.2 percent this past April back to 4.8 percent in May.

The seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate went down by a tenth of a percentage point from May of last year, going from 6.7 to 6.6 percent in May of 2013.

However, the 6.6 percent unemployment rate last month for the state is a 0.2 increase from 6.4 percent in April.
