Marblehead Woman Featured in National Article on Opioid Addiction

A New York Times snapshot of the opioid epidemic features a local woman who publicly apologized to her friends and family .

MARBLEHEAD, MA – A New York Times story that peeks inside stories of opioid addiction around the country starts with the story of a Marblehead woman, whose struggle became public after her arrest in March 2015.

Kaitlin Harvey's story took a different turn when she shared a public apology with Patch after she was arrested on prostitution charges in Salem. She apologized to her friends and family who she had hurt with her addiction.

"I would just like people to know addicts are good people who believe they need to do bad things because they don't deserve any better," Harvey wrote at the time.

The New York Times story left off with Harvey entering a 30-day treatment program. It said her mother, Maureen Cavanagh, had started a group called Magnolia New Beginnings, which seeks to help drug users and their families.
