More Than 300 Volunteers Help Clean Up North Shore Beaches, Parks

Sustainable Marblehead and SPUR helped organize clean-up efforts in Lynn, Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott on Sunday.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A realty sign, autographed baseball, pillow, buoy, lead pipe and wine glass were among the myriad items plucked from the grounds of North Shore beaches and parks Sunday as more than 300 volunteers teamed up to clean up 30 sites as part of International Coastal Clean Up Day on Sunday.

The partnership of Sustainable Marblehead and the Marblehead-based SPUR took the the beaches and parks of Marblehead, Lynn, Swampscott and Salem and filled more than 50 bags with trash and debris.

"As we all find ways to come together while maintaining social distance, many people have been reintroduced to the value of our outdoor community spaces," SPUR Event Drive Manager Bryan Lamoreau said. "The community clean-up is a chance for us to come together to care for and maintain the unique and beautiful beaches and parks that we cherish."

SPUR is a Marblehead-based nonprofit organization that organizes volunteer opportunities and youth services programs in Lynn, Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott.
