New Report Puts Marblehead in Top 50 Most Expensive Communities in State

Homes in Marblehead don’t cost as much, on average, as they do in Weston, but the town has made a list of the most expensive communities in Massachusetts that is topped by Weston, where the average home sells for $1.6 million, according to a new report.

The Mcgeough Lamacchia real estate firm ranked the 50 most expensive communities in the Bay State based on home sale prices in the first six months of 2014. Aside from Marblehead, the north of Boston communities of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Winchester, Hamilton, Lynnfield, Topsfield, Boxford, West Newbury and Andover all made the list.

The report found home prices are on the rise in Massachusetts. The average selling price for a home was $387,818 in June—a 6 percent increase from a year ago. In Marblehead, the average selling price was $638,724 during the same time.
