New Restaurant 'Chickpeas' Approved For Pleasant Street
The Marblehead Zoning Board of Appeals approved a special permit for the new restaurant Chickpeas this week.

MARBLEHEAD, MA - A new restaurant is moving into an old gas station after the Marblehead Zoning Board of Appeals approved a special permit for Chickpeas on Pleasant Street, according to Wicked Local.
The former gas station, located at 195 Pleasant St. has been an eyesore in town for years. According to the report, the board voted 4-1 to approve with a list of suggestions provided by the town’s Design Review Board attached as conditions on the permit.
Their suggestions/conditions are as follow:

- Two traffic studies be conducted to ensure parking is safe for both drivers and pedestrians.
- Curb stops be added at the end of the parking spaces.
- Paving at the rear of the building be continued to trash and compressor area.
- Lighting be installed in the overhang to give it purpose in addition to shade.
- The windows are individual pane metal windows and not a press on grid.
- Vegetation is limited to the three trees and low vegetation that will not impede site lines and will be maintained to ensure a lower height.
- “The fact that the applicant is willing to invest in the site with the knowledge that a planned traffic improvement or the area which as been funded by the state’s 2022 Traffic Improvement Plan (TIP) will include this site will provide the town with a benefit or the five to seven years before this project is a reality.”
