We caught up with Mila recently at Northshore Tennis for this interview:

Can you tell us a little about your college and post college tennis experience?

Find out what's happening in Marbleheadfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

I played for Bentley University as a first flight singles and doubles player. I had an amazing team experience, winning team MVP as well as becoming captain senior year. Now, I am the assistant Men’s and Women’s Coach at Bentley and I also coach several competition level junior players.

When did you first start playing tennis?

My father is a coach, so I was introduced to tennis at a very young age and started playing around the age of 5/6. I started competing in tournaments at the age of 8 in the 10 and under USTA.

What did you learn from your dad?

My dad has always been my coach throughout my whole career. I have learned so much from him as a player and also for my current role as a coach. He has taught me the parallels between life and tennis and guided me through many pivotal moments in my tennis career.

What type of program are you planning for the camps?

For the summer camp I will be setting up themes for each week and day, to narrow down on the focus of shots and point play to specific areas of the game. I will be incorporating tennis related fitness, drills and point play daily as well.

Will youths be grouped by age and/or ability?

The youths will be separated by ability more so than age, but of course we will be looking at both.

Will there be other strengthening and agility drills included?

I will be incorporating strength and agility drills, eye hand coordination drills and games, as well as plyometrics and dynamic stretches/movements.

How have you enjoyed your first year at Northshore Tennis?

I have loved Northshore Tennis so far. Everyone has been incredibly kind and you can see how much the staff and members truly love the game of tennis and the community.

What message would you like to give parents as they decide on their children’s summer activities?

I am incredibly excited to be able to share my passion for the sport and for youth development in this summer camp. While safety is a top priority, I would love to have an environment for everyone to socialize with others, play tennis and get some exercise! I am excited to have an amazing summer and see everyone smiling and having fun while learning day by day in these 8 weeks!
