Incentive Program For Marblehead Municipal Electric Customers
The program will give residents a bill credit or stipend for participation in the "Connected Homes" program.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Residents using the Marblehead Municipal Light Department are eligible for an expanded program that allows for a bill credit or stipend in exchange for allowing the utility to make "brief, limited adjustments to their devices during times of peak electric demand."
The Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company said Monday that Marblehead is one of 13 communities eligible for the "Connected Homes" program in which wifi-enabled electrical devices can be remotely accessed as part of what it calls an "innovative residential demand management program."
"We are thrilled to be able to offer participating (municipal light) customers a new incentive for wifi thermostats, as these are the most common smart devices in homes currently," Joseph Coles, MMWEC's Energy Efficiency Program Manager, said. "We are also happy to welcome two additional MLPs to Connected Homes.

"We look forward to expanding the program further in the future as light departments continue to look for new ways to manage loads, and their customers desire to reduce their carbon footprints."
Customers in the program agree to allow Marblehead Municipal Light to make the adjustments at the peak usage times. The utility said customers will be informed of possible adjustments through email and have the option to opt out of each adjustment.
