5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 27

Marlborough's Congressman has made his endorsement for senator and there is a lot of school news in this edition of Marlborough's 5 Things.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

3. The adult Practical Nursing Program at  is holding their annual Open House Wednesday, Feb. 8. Learn how it is possible to become a practical nurse through a 10 month program. See lab demonstrations and attend an informational presentation. Registration and check-in is from 5:45 to 6 p.m., the information session with demonstration is from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with a question and answer session following. RSVP online to by Friday, Feb. 3. 4. Students in the Senior Leadership Class at have taken on a new challenge as part of the “Fuel Up to Play 60” grant which encourages students to eat a healthy breakfast. The students will be offering morning fare such as waffles, muffins, fruit, paninis, yogurt parfaits, and juices in the newly developed Cyber Cafe in the school’s Media Center. Bistro tables, booths reminiscent of diners, and funky artwork give the area an upbeat flair.  With help from the Superintendent Mary Jo Nawrocki, students shopped for wall art, sculptures and accessories that would create the right atmosphere, and held a soft opening for a small group. Students hope to be open on a regular basis in a few weeks.

5.  endorsed Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren for the United States Senate on Monday. McGovern announced his endorsement after visiting the City Square Development site and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Worcester with Warren. “Elizabeth Warren is a strong champion of progressive values and a powerful advocate for America’s middle class,” said McGovern. “Massachusetts needs Elizabeth’s voice in the United States Senate to take on Wall Street and the other powerful interests in Washington.”
