Active Marlborough Coronavirus Cases Drop To 9-Month Low

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Coronavirus activity in Marlborough has receded to a level not seen since early September.

According to health department data released Monday, there were just 16 active coronavirus cases in the city. That's less than half the number of active cases in Marlborough at the beginning of May, and a low not seen since Sept. 2.

The worst of the second wave of coronavirus hit Marlborough early in 2021. The city had over 400 active cases on Jan. 20, and active cases were in the hundreds for several weeks after. But cases have been dropping steadily following the proliferation of coronavirus vaccines, and recent warmer weather.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,760 residents have tested positive for the virus, and 119 have died.

Marlborough recently began revving up a vaccination site at the Felton Street Courtyard Marriott. The site is accepting walk-ins, although appoints can still be made on the Marlborough Hospital website.

Massachusetts is set to end all pandemic restrictions on May 29. The statewide positive test rate was hovering around 1 percent on Monday (in Marlborough, it's 1.63 percent), with health officials saying any positive test rate below 2 percent is positive.
