City Receives $750,000 Gift for Senior Center Construction

Here are five things to know to help inform your day.

1. The city has accepted a gift from Partners Healthcare Systems Inc. for $750,000 toward the replacement of the Senior Center. The gift will be used to reduce the amount of the $6.5 million bond sought for the center construction.

2. A city of Boston photographer recently shared a photo of a Marlborough family who attended the annual lighting of the city's tree on the Boston Common. Joseph Dixon, Jr., of Marlborough, said he brought his family back to his hometown to celebrate the tree lighting celebration. Pictured, left to right, above, are: Miranda, 7, Wendy, and Joseph Dixon III. Mayor Thomas M. Menino lit the tree to the accompaniment of confetti and fireworks.

3. The sixth grade concert at Whitcomb Middle School, postponed due to the storm on Tuesday, will be held tonight instead. Same time.

4. Christmas break begins for the Marlborough Public Schools at the close of the school day on Friday. Everyone will be back in school on Jan. 2, 2014.
