Educational Institutions Receive Skills Capital Grant Funding
(BOSTON)- Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough) is pleased to announce that $11.7 million has been awarded to vocational and technical educational institutions across the Commonwealth through the Skills Capital Grants program. This program awards competitive grants annually for equipment updates and enrollment expansion to educational institutions throughout Massachusetts. The Skills Capital Grants program is administered through the Massachusetts Workforce Skills Cabinet.
On Tuesday, December 8th, Governor Baker announced the FY21 Skills Capital Grant Awardees, which included $358,741 for Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. Assabet’s award will be used to enhance the healthcare technician program by allowing for the purchase of equipment to create simulation labs to better train students. This equipment includes "smart" hospital beds, EKG and modular lab equipment, a Patient Communication Simulator, ADA compliant stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, electronic thermometers, blood pressure arm simulators, and phlebotomy equipment.

"Vocational and technical schools are a critical part of the workforce development infrastructure here in Massachusetts," said Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough), House Chair of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. "Assabet serves as a critical resource for our community, and the purchase and utilization of this equipment will ensure the skills and necessary training of our students and adult learners for entry-level jobs in the healthcare field, at a time when they are needed most."
