Former Marlborough Deputy Fire Chief Dies

John McGrath worked as a firefighter in Marlborough for more than 30 years, according to the department.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A long-serving former Marlborough firefighter died last weekend after a battle with prostate cancer, the department announced this week.

John McGrath, 61, died on Sunday, according to an International Association of Firefighters obituary. McGrath served in Marlborough for 30 years before retiring in 2016. He last served as a deputy fire chief.

A wake, funeral and procession will be held this weekend in Marlborough for McGrath, according to the fire department. Condolences can be sent to the IAFF Local 1714, 215 Maple St. Marlborough.
