MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough's 2021 election may end up looking a lot like 2019.

On Friday, Marlborough police officer David Garceau picked up nomination papers to run for mayor in 2021, according to the City Clerk. He also ran in 2019 against five-term incumbent Mayor Arthur Vigeant.

Garceau ran in 2019 out of concern about over-development on the west side of Marlborough. Vigeant announced his reelection bid in early May, touting a record of collaboration with the City Council, businesses and the community.

Vigeant bested Garceau in 2019 with 3,527 votes to Garceau's 2,050.

The Marlborough City Clerk opened candidate filing season on May 10. Candidates must return papers by Aug. 17 to get on either a primary ballot, if needed, or the November ballot. So far, Ward 4 City Councilor Robert Tunnera is the only other incumbent facing a challenge in 2021.
