George Flood, Air Force Vet, Engineer at Digital, Dies at 78

Flood lived in Marlborough and was born in Waltham. Services are this week.

George B. Flood, 78, died Wednesday afternoon after a brief period of failing health. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Powell) Flood to whom he was married for 54 years. He was born in Waltham, the son of the late George and Mary (Lelievre) Flood and lived in Marlborough all of his married life. Mr. Flood was a veteran of the United States Air Force Reserves and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He began his career with New England Telephone and retired as a Communications Engineer with Digital.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons; Daniel Flood and his wife Anne, Christopher Flood and his wife Lori, one daughter Kathleen DellaPenna and her husband David, eight grandchildren; Jennifer, Kelsey, Nicholas, Catherine, Christine, Danielle, Ryan and Joseph and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St. Marlborough. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St. Marlborough. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or donors@stjude.org
