Hazmat Team Responds To Marlborough Business After Gas Alarm

A state hazmat team was on scene Wednesday afternoon investigating the incident.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A state Department of Fire Services (DFS) hazmat team responded to a Marlborough business Wednesday afternoon after a possible gas release.

The team went to the Rinchem Company facility at 111 Hayes Memorial Drive at around noon. A gas alarm facility was triggered, and the hazmat team was dispatched to find out what tripped it, DFS spokesperson Jennifer Mieth said.

By around 5 p.m., the team had identified leaking gas canisters and moved them outside the building. Marlborough fire Assistant Chief Jeffrey Gogan said a hydrogen tank and two acetylene tanks were found to be the culprits.
