Local Law Enforcement Agencies Receive Key Investments

(BOSTON)- Representative Danielle W. Gregoire (D-Marlborough) is pleased to announce that local law enforcement agencies have recently been awarded $7.8 million in critical federal grant funding. Specifically, $4.6 million was awarded through the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program to purchase new equipment and infrastructure investments, and $3.2 million was awarded through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for initiatives contributing to the decrease of motor vehicle accidents. The $7.8 million will be administered through the Office of Grants and Research (OGR) within the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

In his announcement last week, Governor Baker shared that these grants will be allocated to more than 160 law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth. As a result of this funding, the Marlborough Police Department will receive $25,000 in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds to assist with traffic enforcement campaigns and to purchase safety equipment. Furthermore, the Westborough Police Department received $39,530 in JAG funding with a request to purchase body-worn cameras for the department.
