Long Snowstorm To Hit Marlborough: Timing, Snow Totals

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A long-duration snow event will move into this region Thursday afternoon, potentially leaving up to 6 inches of snow in the Marlborough area.

You may see flurries Thursday morning, but the real snow won't begin until after 2 p.m. The snow will fall through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

In a change from other recent snow events, this storm will bring more snow to areas closer to the Atlantic Ocean. Almost the entire state west of the I-495 may pick up between 4 and 6 inches — except for the Quabbin Reservoir area, which may only see 3 to 4 inches.

Areas south of the Mass Pike and east of I-95 could pick up 6 to 8 inches, according to the forecast. There are some exceptions. The Milford area is included in the higher snow total, and so is the narrow strip from Route 27 in Natick east to I-95. Marlborough is included in the 4 to 6 inch forecast.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for all of Southern New England. A more severe winter storm warning has not been issued due to how long the storm will last.

"Travel could be difficult at times as roads become snow covered," the advisory says. "The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening commute."
