The downtown Marlborough area will be lit up during a tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 6.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Christmas season is now underway in Marlborough after Mayor Arthur Vigeant this week opened Santa's mailbox. The city has also set a day for the 2019 Christmas tree lighting.
Here's more from a city of Marlborough press release:
At today’s press conference Mayor Vigeant revealed the new holiday stamps and placed the first 2019 letter in Santa’s mailbox, positioned outside of the post office. The Mayor also announced that the City’s annual Home for the Holidays and Tree Lighting celebration will be held Dec. 6 on Union Common (at the intersection of Routes 20 and 85) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All are welcome to attend the festive event. Following tradition, Mayor Vigeant and Santa will arrive by fire engine to commence the 2019 tree lighting. The Marlborough High School Choir, directed by Shannon P. McNulty, will entertain attendees with Christmas carols. Free hot chocolate, popcorn, and candy canes will be distributed by AMSA volunteers and farm animals will be on site for viewing.
Adding to the festivities members of the Marlborough Historical Society will distribute light sticks to attending children, compliments of the event sponsor, Vin Bin. Santa will be available to meet with children following the illumination of the tree. The engaging musical portion of the event will continue at 6:45 pm in the First Congregational Church, when the Marlborough High School String Ensemble, directed by Angie Crockwell, performs, followed at 7:15 pm by a Marlborough High School Jazz Ensemble performance, directed by James Verdone.
