Marlborough Author Gives Tips to Getting Published

Local Author Jan Krause Greene gives the tips to help get your story published.

When Jan Krause Greene, the author of I Call Myself Earth Girl that is available on Amazon, set out to write a book she did not realize how much more there is than putting words on paper.

In the modern era of publishing through most outlets, the author must become their own spokesperson, she said. Even for Greene, who signed to have her book published by a company and was not self-publishing, there are certain expectations.

"In order to get published, when a publisher is talking to you, they want you to have a blog. They want you to have what is called a writers platform," said Greene.

Greene said it is important to be involved with social media, such as tweeting as well as have a writing platform up. This is to show that you already have an audience for your work.

"They want you to have an audience," she said.

Even when you get signed, there are ongoing efforts that an author must make. Greene has put together a video trailer for her book.

It is also important to make local appearances. The following are Greene's local appearances coming up:

  • Tatnuck Book Seller in Westborough, Sunday November 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Talk and book signing.
  • Holliston Public Library, Thursday, November 21 7 pm, talk, book signing
November 22 - An author event at Barnes and Noble Framingham
