MARLBOROUGH, MA — The number of new daily coronavirus cases in Marlborough is up, according to the latest health data, but positive tests are down — an important metric that determines the overall risk level in the city.
On Monday, health officials reported Marlborough was adding about 20.7 new cases per 100,000 people over the past two weeks. That's down slightly from the 20.9 cases reported on Friday, but higher than the 20 per day reported on March 29 and March 22.
The city's positive test rate was at 2.99 percent on Monday. That's down from the 3.17 percent on March 26.

Those two statistics determine if Marlborough goes back on the state's list of high-risk communities. That list has been growing in recent weeks, and Framingham re-joined it on Thursday. Marlborough's positive test rate would have to rise above 4 percent for the city to be considered high-risk.
More than half of Marlborough's current 86 active coronavirus cases are in people under age 40. The age group with the highest number of active cases — 18 — are people between 20 and 29. Nineteen people under age 18 have the virus.
