Marlborough Opens Warming Shelter Amid Wind, Power Outages
The shelter will be open through Tuesday afternoon as temperatures drop into the single digits due to wind chill.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough will operate a warming shelter at the Senior Center through the afternoon amid a windy, frigid patch of weather.
The shelter at the 40 New St. facility will be open until 4 p.m., but Mayor Arthur Vigeant said it may open tomorrow due to power outages. Thousands of Marlborough residents lost power early Tuesday morning, and about 4 percent of the city was still out shortly before noon.
"National Grid is working on numerous power outages throughout the city and the state. Our Senior Center has a large multipurpose room that is set up with social distancing in mind, and we welcome those who need a place to warm up," Vigeant said in a statement.

Temperatures are expected to get into the mid-20s Tuesday afternoon with the wind chill rising to about 10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures should rise into the mid-40s by Wednesday afternoon, according to forecasts.
