Marlborough Store Hit In Series Of Smash & Grabs

Series of convenience store thefts stealing only cigarettes.

MARLBOROUGH, MA --A onMarlborough convenience store was targeted in a rash of robberies where three men wearing hoods rush into a stores and grab one thing -- cigarettes, NECN reports.

No cash is taken, just hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes are stuffed into duffle bags they bring.

But at more than $10 a pack, cigarettes are a valuable commodity on the streets.

The target area appears to be around Central Massachusetts with similar theft reported in Marlborough, Bolton and Hudson.

The most recent robbery was last Thursday at the Country Cupboard in Bolton. The thieves smashed a glass door and ran in with duffle bags.

At 3 a.m. that same day, the Apple Country Market in nearby Hudson was also hit.

Days before, the E-Z Mart in Marlborough was targeted. The thieves broke the window by throwing a rock through it, then rushes in stuffing their duffle bags with Marlboro cigarettes.

Most of these robberies are captured on store security video.

The theft of cigarettes during convenience- store robberies is not uncommon, but grabbing a handful of cigarettes is typically after cash has been stole.
