MARLBOROUGH, MA — Mayor Arthur Vigeant has picked a replacement for outgoing Marlborough treasurer and controller Brian Doheny.

Patrick Jones will take over as finance director, coming to city government from the Westwood-based firm Architectural Electronics, where he served as a controller for the past 16 years, according to a city press release. Jones also recently served on the finance committees in Auburn and Sutton.

"Planning for next fiscal year will be challenging due to state and federal shortfalls due to the pandemic," Vigeant said in a statement. "[Jones] comes highly recommended, and I believe he will be able to keep us on track and ensure long term financial stability."

The City Council last week approved Jones' appointment for an initial three-year term. Jones said he is impressed with Marlborough's financial security, its AAA bond rating in particular.

"In times like these I know how important it is to the people of Marlborough to maintain this high level of excellence, and I look forward to working with the city departments, the mayor and his administration, and the City Council to accomplish the city’s goals," he said in a statement.
