New Marlborough Fire Station Will Be Topic Of Public Forum
Marlborough has purchased a site along Elm Street for a potential new fire station in a growing part of the city.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — A potential new fire station west of I-495 in Marlborough will be the topic of an upcoming community forum.
Last fall, Marlborough purchased a home at 481 Elm St. for $440,000. A new fire station on the parcel is not guaranteed, but Mayor Arthur Vigeant has said a west side fire station is a priority due to new office, retail and residential developments.
Two City Councilors voted against the Elm Street purchase in October due to concerns about a fire station's impact on traffic and the neighborhood. City officials have said the Elm Street parcel could be resold if the city does not move forward with a fire station.

The community forum will feature Vigeant and Fire Chief Kevin Breen. They will discuss the benefits of a station west of I-495, including how it could boost response times. Marlborough has three existing fire stations, with the closest to I-495 near the intersection of Pleasant and Chestnut streets.

The April 22 hearing will be broadcast on WMCT-TV, and residents will get to participate virtually.
