Small Biz Profile: Post Road Art Center
'Helping people preserve what they love and teaching people about supplies and art, it's great.'

A certified picture framer (yes, you can get certified), Randi Isaacson says he loves framing pictures because “it is an art all itself...creating something to enhance another person’s work and show it off in its best light while preserving it for the future.”
Isaacson, who is also an artist who works in acrylics, oils and encaustic, owns Post Road Art Center, 1 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough.
Post Road does custom framing, sells art supplies, holds art classes, sells handmade gifts and jewelry, and showcases local artists’ work.

When did you open/launch? We opened in September of 1990, and we opened our school in January of 2012.
What made you decide to open this type of business? And why this location? I had a fine arts degree…. And a background in family business. I took a job in a frame shop and I fell in love with the work. I have always liked Marlborough and this beautiful old house just happened to be on the market while I was looking. It is a great space. We were able to purchase the building behind us in 2012 and have art classes for kids and adults. Watching the progress that people make with their art is wonderful.

What do you like best about it? I love working with my hands and building things. Helping people preserve what they love and teaching people about supplies and art, it’s great.
Biggest struggle? Getting the word out on all that we do. People just assume that we do this or that, and when they walk through the doors and see that we do framing and art supplies and have cool gifts and jewelry and art classes and have a gallery, they had no idea!!
What do you see for the future? More of everything great!
