MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant will seek a sixth term in 2021, a decade after he was first elected to the seat.

Vigeant, 64, last won election in 2019 when he faced off against Marlborough police officer David Garceau. Vigeant won with about 3,500 votes to Garceau's 2,000. A third 2019 challenger, Keith St. John, lost in that year's primary.

In announcing his run, Vigeant touted accomplishments ranging from the city's high credit rating to the opening of the Goodnow Brothers Elementary School and his mission to open a new fire station west of I-495.

"I’m proud of my track record of building relationships and finding areas of common ground that moves us forward," he said in a statement Monday. "We don’t allow partisan politics cloud our objectives and delay progress and that is something our counterparts in Washington could improve upon. In Marlborough we work together each and every day to make this community a better place to live."

If he faces other candidates in 2021, Vigeant will be in a strong position: campaign finance filings show the mayor had close to $38,000 to spend as of April 30. Vigeant hasn't taken in any donations since January 2020, when his war chest topped $65,000. He's spent more than $10,000 so far in 2021, mostly on campaign mailings.
