2 Martha's Vineyard Towns Drop Status As Coronavirus Red Zones

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Edgartown and Oak Bluffs are no longer at high-risk of COVID-19 transmission due to a decrease in positive cases in the town over the last two weeks, according to Thursday's statistics from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Edgartown had been labeled as a coronavirus "red zone" since Jan. 14 and Oak Bluffs since Jan. 7, meaning that they were at the highest risk of transmission and reported over 25 average daily cases in a population of under 10,000 people.

As of Thursday, there have been 246 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Edgartown, with 24 reported in the last two weeks, and 213 cases in Oak Bluffs, also with 24 reported in the last two weeks.

Edgartown currently has an average daily incidence rate of 42 and a positivity rate of 3.71%, a significant decrease from last week's average daily incidence rate of 50.7 and 4.55% positivity rate.

Oak Bluffs currently has an average daily incidence rate of 32.9 and a positivity rate of 6.16%, a significant decrease from last week's average daily incidence rate of 52.1 and 9.03% positivity rate.

Edgartown and Oak Bluff's improved COVID-19 statistics come during a statewide decrease in high-risk communities. The state health department reported Thursday that there are currently 110 COVID-19 "red zones" in Massachusetts, down 153 from last week.
