A Sunday Afternoon Poem

Today's Sunday Poem: "Anchor A Way" by William Waterway

Anchor A Way

I awoke - adrift in endless sea
     waters churning with yearning
From one port to another my ship drifts
     captured in thunder torn asunder
     forces dark, fearsome, meddlesome
wreaking havoc - no good reason
Distant dreams
     carry whispers of promise
     launching my vessel invincible
     sailing       into realms invisible
Feeling strain
my ship pulls against the pain
of old anchor heavy with disdain
Fate delivers
     streams of shifting winds
     tugging at reefed canvass
sewn in shack of quiet hours
as others sleep in lonely towers
With tiller in hand I set my rigging
     above depths unfathomable
     hull groans under Neptune's strain
     against deadly drag astern
that old heavy anchor   of disdain
Standing strong at firmament's helm
my being surges with ancient urges
     calloused hand grasps lightning
cuts my line to anchor old
swings my ship into winds untold
scuttles my dream in sea of destiny
