American Idol's Sonika Vaid Makes Final 8

American Idol contestant Sonika Vaid, of Martha's Vineyard, on Thursday night advanced to the next round of the singing competition.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — American Idol contestant Sonika Vaid on Thursday night advanced to the next round of the singing competition.

Eight singers remain after this week's show, which featured two eliminations.

Vaid sang "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson. The judges' reviews were mixed.

"I wanted more attitude," said Keith Urban, adding Vaid is a "really good singer."

Harry Connick, Jr. and Jennifer Lopez agreed Vaid's voice was fantastic but her physical performance needed work.

Nonetheless, Vaid survived Thursday's double elimination. Two more contestants will be eliminated in next week's episode.

At just 20 years old, Vaid, of Martha's Vineyard, was declared an early favorite to win Idol, which is in its final season.
