Art Buchwald’s Vineyard Haven Home For Sale

The turn-of-the-century home of the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist is now on the market

The Vineyard Haven home owned by Pulitzer Prize winning newspaper columnist Art Buchwald is for sale.

Over the course of his life, Buchwald wrote 33 books, one play and hundreds of columns and enjoyed a career that spanned more than half a century. In 1982, he received the Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary, and in 1986 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

On the Island, Buchwald was the well-known man behind the gavel who helped raise millions of dollars at the annual for Community Services.

Buchwald’s home, on what was once called Writers Row in West Chop, because its residents included Buchwald’s good friends William Styron, John Hersey and , was built in 1888. It has eight bedrooms, four and a half baths and, according to its listing, “a breezy verandah stretching across the back of the house overlooking the lovely gardens and professionally landscaped grounds.” It is listed at $1,925,000.
