A good sandwich is up there on the list of the best things about a good lunch. And for many hardworking Islanders, lunch is the most important meal of the day. Likewise, many year-round eating establishments depend on the honored one-hour lunch break provided to contractors, carpenters, landscapers and other laborers to make it through the winter.

This means that chefs here on the Island know how to make a good sandwich and the rest of us get to reap those benefits.

And in the summer, there are places that open up like and the , that give our year-round sandwich spots a run for their money.

Whether you go for the daily special – be that a steak sub from or a locally raised pulled pork sandwich from – or you stick with the same solid standby every day from , there’s plenty to choose from come noontime on Martha’s Vineyard.
