Cape Cod Weather: Heavy Winds, Flooding Possible

The region is under a flood watch Friday as forecasts call for heavy rain and wind.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for southeastern New England Friday, including the Cape and Islands. Localized flooding and minor wind damage to trees and power lines is possible from the mid-morning into the afternoon. This may result in power outages on the Cape.

The forecast calls for rainfall totals of 2-3 inches in the Hyannis and Chatham areas, 3-4 inches on Nantucket, 2-3 inches on Martha's Vineyard and 1-1.5 inches on the Outer Cape. Wind gusts between 45 and 50 mph are expected.

As of 9 a.m., the National Weather Service reported water building up on Nantucket and a rainfall total of 3.42 inches on Martha's Vineyard.
