Charges Dropped Against Man Accused Of Rape On MV Ferry

The man was accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman while on board a Steamship Authority ferry earlier this month.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Prosecutors have dropped the charges against a man who was accused of assaulting an 18-year-old woman while on board a Steamship Authority ferry from Martha's Vineyard earlier this month.

According to the Cape and Islands District Attorneys Office Public Records Access Officer, the court decided to dismiss the case and drop the charges after speaking with the victim and her family.

Bruno Sanches DeJesus, 20, of Dorchester had been charged with two counts of rape, which he pleaded not guilty to at Falmouth District Court.

The incident took place on board a Steamship Authority ferry heading to Woods Hole from Martha's Vineyard on Monday, June 7, and police say the teen reported the incident after the ship docked.

DeJesus had originally been held on $25,000 cash bail.
