Chilmark Leads the State With Lowest Property Tax Rate in FY 2012

Vineyard towns pay a range of tax rates, from $2.08 per $1,000 to $8.01 per $1,000.

If you live on Chilmark and pay property taxes, here's some good news.

Chilmark boasts the lowest residential and commercial property tax rates in the state for fiscal year 2012, according to the Boston Business Journal.

Chilmark’s residential and commercial/industrial property tax rate is $2.08 per $1,000. The highest rate for towns on the island is Tisbury, with $8.01 per $1,000 for residential and $7.44 per $1,000 for commercial/industrial.

Sharon has the highest residential tax rate (also with a flat split) in Massachusetts at 20.11 percent.
