Edgartown Attorney Hands in Letter of Resignation
Edward W. (Peter) Vincent, Jr., chooses resignation over disbarment

Rather than be disbarred, Edgartown attorney Edward W. (Peter) Vincent Jr. has offered to resign, reported the Vineyard Gazette. Vincent filed the resignation request last Friday with the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers. “The Board of Bar Overseers will review the request at its meeting next month and make a recommendation to the Supreme Judicial Court, said Michael Fredrickson, the board’s general counsel,” reported the Gazette.
If his resignation is accepted, Vincent would be barred from practicing law for a minimum of eight years. In a signed affidavit, Vincent said that he wished to resign rather than contest any charges against him since he believes that the board will recommend his disbarment.
Vincent was arrested last April when were filed against Vincent him: One stated that he owed to the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals $190,000 for the sale of a building and another that he owed more than $400,000 from a separate real estate transaction. These lawsuits were dismissed when he paid back the money.
