Today's strong winds were a factor in the total loss of a family home in OB
Firefighters from Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, and Edgartown responded to a house engulfed in flames Thursday afternoon on the corner of Fairway Drive and Wheelhouse Way in the Sea Glen section of Oak Bluffs.
The flames, fanned by strong southwest winds, consumed the entire house. Firefighters from all three towns were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
According to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, “At least three people were in the house at the time the fire began. Everybody got out safely. One person was treated at the scene for minor burns and singed hair.”

According to the Times, “Water supply appeared to be a problem,” and tanker trucks had to brought in to supply the water needed to put out the fire.
By 4:10 pm, the fire was out. However, the house was a total loss.
Oak Bluffs fire chief Pete Forend told the Times, that due to the strong winds, "We're extremely lucky it's just this one house."
