Fisherman Airlifted To Hospital From 60 Miles Off Vineyard

A U.S. Coastguard helicopter rescued an injured fisherman 60 miles southeast of Martha's Vineyard on Friday.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA—A U.S. Coastguard helicopter rescued an injured fisherman 60 miles southeast of Martha's Vineyard on Friday night.

According to a press release from the Coast Guard's 1st District Headquarters in Boston, at approximately 6 p.m., watchstanders received a message from the crew of a commercial fishing vessel named Persistence. The crew asked for assistance due to a 50-year-old fisherman on board who was showing stroke-like symptoms.

A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter launched and safely hoisted the fisherman from the ship around 7:30 p.m. The man was transported to Providence Hospital for treatment.
