Fundraiser for Survivor of New Year’s Day Fire
Paola Ayala Fuller lost everything she owned to a fire on New Year's Day, now her friends are helping her get it back
The in Oak Bluffs left many talking about fire hydrants, the heroism of firefighters, tragedy and averted tragedy. That fire also left behind Paola Ayala Fuller, the tenant of 17 Spruce Street, who thankfully got out of the fire alive, but who lost all of her possessions. Everything she owned was incinerated. She was left without her clothes, her credit cards, even her car keys – never mind a place to live.
There has been a huge outpouring of concern from across the Vineyard community and beyond, from caring people asking how to help and a group of Paola's Martha's Vineyard friends have organized several options to help her get back on her feet. Kim Wells, a friend of Fuller, said, “As a resident and business owner on the Vineyard for over 15 years, I have never experienced such an incredible out pouring of support to help out an individual of the community that many of us know and several have never met before.”
Fuller herself has been overwhelmed by the response. “I have never felt such love, support and concern then I have with this beautiful community we are so lucky to be a part of,” she said.
