John Fogerty Takes Crowd Back To Woodstock: Beach Road Day 2

John Fogerty celebrated 50 years since Creedence Clearwater Revival's Woodstock show with a performance at Beach Road on the Vineyard.

MARTHAS VINEYARD, MA — If you were looking to get put in a time capsule back to the days of Woodstock, John Fogerty's set at Beach Road Weekend did just that. Ripping through some of Creedence Clearwater Revival's biggest hits, some of his own solo tracks, and a few covers from some of his favorite bands, the Roll and Roll Hall of Famer showed the Martha's Vineyard crowd he's still playing high energy shows 50 years later.

Fogerty opened up with fan favorites "Born on the Bayou" and "Green River," which got the entire reserved seating up front standing and singing along for the first time of the day. The crowd, which consisted of mostly fans who would have been alive to see Creedence Clearwater Revival perform in their prime, turned back the clocks and had a youthful energy as they danced the night away to Fogerty like it was 1969 all over again.

After some more Clearwater hits including "Who'll Stop the Rain," "Hey Tonight," and Fogerty's solo hit "Rock and Roll Girls," Fogerty kept the nostalgia party going covering some of his favorite acts including "I Heard it Through the Grape Vine" by Gladys Knight and the Pips, "Give Peace a Chance" by Plastic Ono Band, and "With a Little Help from My Friends" by the Beatles.

It wasn't just about the old days though. Fogerty welcomed his son Shane as a member of his band, and he was not just a rhythm guitarists. At one point, the two Fogerty's were trading guitar solos back and forth, feeding off each other and the energy of the crowd.

The energy continued for much of the night, and the crowd ate up every minute of it. His solo song "Centerfield" had some of the most enthusiastic crowd interaction, especially from the parents who brought their kids, since anyone who's seen a Red Sox game at Fenway Park has heard the famous chorus, "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play." Closing tracks "Bad Moon Rising" and "Proud Mary" and "Moon Rising," ended the night, but "Woodstock era" fans have more to look forward to as Phil Lesh from the Grateful Dead closes out Beach Road Weekend Sunday night.
