Lambert's Cove In Tisbury To Remain Closed To Traffic Into 2020

Tisbury officials said the road will be closed to traffic until an aging culvert and headwall are full replaced.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Lambert's Cove in Tisbury will remain closed to all public traffic to start 2020 while the town fully replaces an aging culvert. The road washed out during a heavy rain storm in early December with indications of sink holes detected.

Tisbury Department of Public Works Director Kirk Metell said the road will remain closed until work to replace the full culvert and headwall is completed.

Town officials said a contractor brought in heavy equipment, pumps and material from the mainland to excavate a trench for draining purposes on Dec. 19. The existing culvert was blocked and believed to have collapsed, allowing ground water to reach within feet of the road surface. Officials said the groundwater level had to lower before the excavation work could be done, and that the drainage construction work was expected to be completed in early 2020.
