On Wednesday evening at the , there will be a panel and public forum discussing Minorities in the Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools (MVPS). The panel will be made up of students, parents, and teachers from these communities who will share their experiences, successes and frustrations, specifically within the MVPS system.
Discussion topics will include: how the patterns of discrimination originating in the wider society manifest themselves within Island public schools; what challenges minority students, parents and teachers face daily and how those who are not targeted by these biases can learn to recognize them and help to eliminate them.
School District Superintendent Dr. James Weiss will join the panel for a frank discussion of the current situation and of efforts and programs for its improvement.
